The IRS announced that it will continue efforts to expand their ways to communicate with taxpayers who prefer to get information in other languages. With the diverse culture in America, the IRS wants taxpayers to feel comfortable communicating in their preferred language. IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said that this service is one they “hope to eventually provide to all taxpayers.”. He declared that the IRS wants “everyone to be on the same playing field” and wishes that the new forms help bring this change.

According to the IRS, Form 1040 will now be available in Spanish and 20 other languages. Taxpayers can indicate their language of preference for IRS-issued written communications or change their language preference. IRS Publication 17, Your Federal Income Tax, is now available in Spanish, Chinese Simplified and Traditional, Vietnamese, Korean, and Russian. Pages on IRS.gov are now available in these languages and Haitian Creole. Taxpayers will have access to over-the-phone interpreter services in more than 350 languages. The IRS will be inserting translation services and multilingual options information into notices sent to taxpayers.
